The Route Path:

VA-94 starts at an intersection with US 52 in the southern part of Fort Chiswell. The route heads southwest, forming the border of the CDP, before leaving it. VA-94 slowly starts going south, as it goes through rural Wythe County. Eventually, the route reaches the CDP of Ivanhoe, and passes through it. Leaving Ivanhoe, VA-94 starts going next to the New River, before entering Carroll County.

In Carroll County, the route heads south, passing through some mountainous terrain for almost 9 miles. After those 9 miles, VA-94 enters Grayson County, and enters the town of Fries. In the town, the route descends down the mountains, before turning west at an intersection with SR-1001.

VA-94 avoids Downtown Fries, and slowly gets further away from the New River. Eventually, the route turns southeast at an intersection with SR-274. VA-94 goes parallel to the New River, before crossing it as the river heads north. Shortly after, the route reaches its southern end at US 58, just southwest of the City of Galax.
