Welcome to the 11th Hunty Roads Monthly Blog Post, the most content-packed Blog Post here on Hunty Roads so far. Many of the topics will be about the previous year, plus some about the new and uncovered year of 2025. Yes, it is the start of the new year, which means everyone's yearly clinches, travels, and other stats have been wiped clean once again. I hope everybody has had a wonderful Christmas, fantastic December and an amazing 2024!

The sun sets just like 2024. |
If you didn't already know, December 12 was the 2nd birthday of the website, which was celebrated by lots of new content, followed by an expansion into Secondary Routes for 12 Days of Christmas. Secondary Route 607 was chosen as the lucky number, and it got a steady lead with 10 county versions of the route getting their mini-pages.
2024 in Review:
2024 will go down as the 2nd best travel/road-geek year of my life (Behind 2023). There wasn't as many road trips as the year before, but there was plenty of new travel, including multiple out-of-state trips.
I visited a total of 71 counties and county-equivalents in 2024. Out of those, 17 were first-time new counties, and one is possibly new (Bedford County, VA).

My 2024 county map. |
The yearly travels truly began on March 2nd, with a mini-trip to Buckingham County. That would be followed by my first real road trip of the year on March 18th, to Winchester. That trip gave me 4 new counties + 1 new city. The next trip came on April 1st, to Harrisonburg, eventually followed by an April 21st trip to Washington, DC to see an Astros @ Nationals game (WSH won 6-0). This trip gave me Arlington County and my first time out of Virginia of the year. That following day would give me a trip to Palmyra and I got a full clinch of VA-53.

I-66 West at US 29 near Centreville. April 21st. |
May would be tripless, but June 8th would see a mini-trip to the Richmond Area, and the first Myrtle Beach, SC trip would happen on the 10th. I got 2 new counties in NC on the trip there, followed by 3 more in the state on the trip back to Richmond, on June 12th. I would head back home on the 13th, the day before my birthday (Proudly a Flag Day birthday).

I-295 North on the Varina-Enon Bridge. June 12th. |
The next few weeks would go quiet, before I set off for the 2nd Myrtle Beach trip on July 22nd. This was mostly an exact repeat of the 1st trip, but with a different start/end point. I would stay in Myrtle Beach until July 26th, where I got one more NC county (Bladen) on the trip back home.

I-95 North at the VA State Line. July 26th. |
August was also surprisingly quiet until the 24th, which came with a trip to Baltimore, MD to see an Astros @ Orioles game (BAL won 3-2). That gave me Loudoun County (VA), plus 2 new Maryland Counties and the City of Baltimore.

VA-267 east at VA-7. August 24th. |
I would yet again settle down until September 20th, when I went east to Cape Charles, giving me Northampton County. I would also clinch VA-184 by a mixture of car and foot that evening. I left there on the 22nd, going back into hibernation before taking a trip to Bedford County, VA on October 11th. That may or may not be my first time in that county, depending on if I actually went into it on an October 2022 trip to Lynchburg. The trip back on the 13th would shockingly end up as my final road trip of 2024, as I would truly settle down for all of November and December, so much that the Monthly Travels part of this Blog Post and last months would be omitted.

Despite this obvious lack of trips, I still ended up having a good-looking year county and clinching wise. Including non-road pictures, 2024 will end with a grand total of 10,074 pictures added to my camera roll, compared to 13,272 in 2023.
This is most likely due to the trips this year being longer and farther than many of those in 2023. Hopefully 2025 will be better than both years, and it is actually looking like it very well could be as I've been putting together multiple possible trips that I could take this upcoming year.
Hunty Roads in 2024:
6.1K. That's the number of views on Hunty Roads in all of 2024. That's also over 60% of all-time views on this website.
Hunty Roads has hit multiple milestones throughout the year, including 10,000 views on its 2nd birthday (Dec 12). 47 Route Posts have also been published in 2024, that includes the 100th all-time Route Post (VA-100) on May 18th.
Outside of views and Route Posts, multiple features have been added to the website this year. I came u[ with the Monthly Blog on February 29th, and the first edition was published on March 1st. The first day of the month would become the day for the Blog Posts to release, including this one (#11).
The Route of the Week system was added on May 27th, highlighting a route in the state with an existing Route Post every week (Just very recently I've decided to actually do it every week). 2 days before this, the Random Posts feature was added, with 3 random Route Posts appearing on each page reload.
I expanded Hunty Roads into North Carolina on June 13th, and I will finally resume adding onto the site in January 2025. Just after the 2nd birthday of the site on December 12, I made the expansion into Secondary Routes to add to the lifespan of Hunty Roads.
I will say that in 2025, more additions will definitely be added to the site, including some scrapped ideas possible being reborn and coming to reality.
Posts/Pages of December 2024:
This month is the most active month in Hunty Roads since December 2022, the very first month of this website's history. A total of 10 Route Posts, 1 Secondary Route Page (including 9 county mini-pages), and 1 Road Trip Page has been published to Hunty Roads during the month.
Here's the list:

Trip Anniversaries This Month:
January is not usually a month where I go travel much. However, that doesn't mean there isn't any trips from the month throughout the years.
Two Years:
Destination | Date (/MM/DD/YY) |
Hampton, VA (and back) | 1/1/23 |
* First of my 2023 Road Trips. Likely my first ever New Year's Day trip.
Next Post & Sendoff:
In February 2025, I will (hopefully) be fully out of 2024 and focusing on the previous month and looking forward to the summertime in hopes that I will be traveling more. I'll still await the return of "Monthly Travels" next month, which I'm sure it'll actually happen.
The Trip % lists will also begin shifting as thoughts become plans or plans become cancellations. The lists will also be less over-hopeful, but hopefully the only removals come from trips being taken throughout January.
Now for the first Blog Post-ending Hunty Roads Fun Fact of 2025: The only Bridge-Tunnels in the United States are located in the Hampton Roads Area. These are the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel (US 13), Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel (I-64/US 60), and the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge Tunnel (I-664).
