US Route 21 is a road that goes from I-81, and US 52 in Wytheville, VA to Hunting Island State Park in South Carolina. Since this is a Virginia-based website, this page will only have the northern part of the route in Virginia.

The Route Path:
US 21 starts at the diamond interchange with I-81 and US 52 in the town of Wytheville. The route continues south from the interchange, entering downtown and eventually reaching US 11. US 21 heads southwest through part of the town with the route, before US 11 splits off from the concurrency. US 21 continues southwest from here, before curving south as it leaves Wytheville.
The route passes through rural Wythe County, running next to the Big Survey Wildlife Management Area and intersecting many secondary routes. Eventually, US 21 reaches the community of Speedwell, where the route intersects SR-619 and SR-749. After leaving Speedwell, US 21 begins to climb up a mountain range, eventually passing through Dry Run Gap and entering Grayson County.
Once the route descends down the mountains, it continues south on a straight stretch and passes by the community of Elk Creek as it intersects SR-658. Eventually, US 21 curves southwest as it becomes a windy and mountainous road, before curving southeast as it loses elevation.
Shortly after, the route enters the town of Independence, heading south before reaching an intersection with US 58 and US 221 in the center of the town. The latter turns south onto US 21, and both routes continue south, shortly before leaving Independence and gaining some elevation. Eventually, US 21/221 cross the New River, heading southeast shortly before crossing the VA/NC State Line and entering North Carolina.
My Experiences:
I have been on US 21, but never in Virginia. However, I have passed the northern end in Wytheville on I-77/81 multiple times.
