Interstate 87 is a future interstate that is planned to use US 17 for its entire length in Virginia, going from I-64/I-464/VA-168 in Chesapeake to the VA/NC State Line north of South Mills. The future interstate will connect Norfolk and Hampton Roads to parts of Northeastern North Carolina, and eventually the Raleigh-Durham Area.
None of the interstate is signed in Virginia as of October 30, 2024, which likely won't change for many years. This page will of course be updated when there is major new information about I-87, including reroutes, designations, and construction.

The Route Path:
Interstate 87 would most likely begin at the dual-interchange with I-64, I-464, US 17, and VA-168 in the South Norfolk district of Chesapeake. The future interstate heads southwest with US 17, immediately having a diamond interchange exit for VA-190. After this, Future I-87/US 17 have an exit for the south end of VA-166.
The future interstate continues southwest, eventually going on the Veterans Bridge over the Elizabeth River. Soon after that, Future I-87 and US 17 have an exit for VA-165, before losing freeway status at an intersection with Grassfield Parkway.
The routes continue southwest still, having an intersection with Scenic Parkway, before eventually curving southward as they pass through a little bit of farmland. Shortly after this, Future I-87 and US 17 have an intersection with the southern end of US 17 Business. From here, the routes pass by the Chesapeake Regional Airport, before intersecting Cornland Road in the little neighborhood of West Landing.
Future I-87 continues to head south-southwest with US 17, intersecting Douglas Road before eventually reaching the neighborhood of Arbuckle Landing. Here, the routes pass by some residential areas, with intersections at Glencoe Street and Ballahack Road. Following this, Future I-87 and US 17 continue to run parallel to the Great Dismal Swamp, before eventually crossing the State Line into North Carolina.
My Experiences:
I have never been on I-87, but I likely have been on the 'Future' part of the interstate in VA along US 17. If I have, it was years ago.
