Interstate 64 is a major interstate route that crosses Virginia. It enters the commonwealth in rural Allegheny County, and ends at an interchange with I-264 and I-664 at Bower's Hill in Chesapeake.
West of Virginia, I-64 begins at I-70, US 61, and US 40 in Chesterfield, Missouri, and goes through the St. Louis area of the state, and goes through Illinois, Kentucky, and West Virginia, before crossing into Virginia.

The Route Path:
I-64 crosses into Virginia with US 60, east of White Sulphur Springs, WV. The routes head east through part of mountainous Allegheny County, before a diamond interchange with the first exit in the state, serving Jerry's Run Trail. A while later, the routes have a half-diamond exit for SR-661, Ogle Creek Road, and eventually, US 60 splits from I-64 at Exit 10, where SR-159's northern end is.
The interstate continues east, as it enters the City of Covington, I-64 has an exit for VA-154, before passing south of downtown. East of the city, the interstate has an exit for US 60 and US 220, which join I-64 at the exit. I-64, US 60, and US 220 continue east from Covington for a few miles, before an exit for the CDP of Low Moor.
Not long after the exit, Business US 60, and Business US 220 split from I-64, US 60, and US 220 at Exit 24, heading into the town of Clifton Forge. The routes curve around the north of Clifton Forge, before US 220 splits from the routes at Exit 27. Business US 60 also reunites with Mainline US 60 at this exit. Shortly after, I-64 and US 60 have an exit for VA-42, which the segment of the discontinuous route ends at SR-632 and VA-269 just south of the interchange.
The routes continue east through more of mountainous Allegheny County, before and exit with VA-269's eastern end. After the exit, I-64 and US 60 go north, eventually crossing into Rockbridge County, and have an exit with SR-780 (Scenic Drive), and turn to the east. After a few miles, US 60 splits from I-64 to go towards Lexington, while I-64 continues east north of the city. 5 miles later, I-64 has a diamond interchange with US 11, followed by an interchange at the southern end of its concurrency with I-81.
I-64 merges onto Northbound I-81, and the interstates go concurrent, parallel to the Blue Ridge Mountains, and eventually they have an exit for US 11. Not long after, I-64 and I-81 pass north of Fairfield, and have an exit for SR-710. After going through more of Rockbridge County, the interstates have an exit for SR-606, and enter Augusta County. I-64 and I-81 head north through some rural areas, before another exit with US 11. US 340 begins just south of the interchange on US 11. The interstates continue north, before an exit with SR-654. Not long after, I-64 and I-81 meet the south end of VA-262. Just after the trumpet interchange, I-64 splits off from I-81, and heads eastbound again.
Not long after the split, I-64 has an exit for VA-285, followed by an interchange with US 340 as the interstate passes through the southern part of Waynesboro. Right before climbing the Blue Ridge Mountains, the interstate has an exit for SR-624. At the top of the mountain, I-64 has an exit for US 250, and passes through the northernmost part of Nelson County as the interstate goes down the mountains, into Albemarle County.
At the bottom of the mountains, I-64 has another exit for US 250, which provides access to Crozet. The interstate passes through hilly Albemarle County terrain, before meeting SR-637 at Exit 114, which heads north to Ivy. After the exit, I-64 has an interchange with US 29, which provides access to Lynchburg, Culpeper, and Washington, DC. The interstate passes just south of the City of Charlottesville, and has exits for SR-631, and VA-20. After the VA-20 interchange, I-64 crosses the Rivanna River, and has a DDI exit with US 250.

I-64 briefly enters Fluvanna County, before entering Louisa County, and having a DDI exit with US 15 in Zion Crossroads, the US 15 DDI is the first DDI in Virginia. East of US 15, I-64 switches between Louisa and Goochland Counties, and has exits with VA-208, SR-605, and SR-629, before having an exit with US 522 just north of Gum Spring. East of US 522, I-64 has exits with SR-617, and SR-623, before meeting the north end of VA-288 just west of Short Pump.

Right after the interchange, the interstate meets the north end of I-295, which bypasses Richmond for I-64 and I-95. East of I-295, I-64 has exits for US 250, Gaskins Road, and Parham Road, and Glenside Drive, before having another exit with US 250. The interstates head southeast, and have an exit for VA-161. Just north of Downtown Richmond, I-64 and I-95 have an exit for US 301, before I-64 splits from I-95, and heads away from Downtown. The interstate then has an exit for US 360, followed by exits for VA-33, Laburnum Avenue, and VA-156. 2 miles later, I-64 has its eastern interchange with I-295, which also provides access to US 60.

East of I-295, I-64 enters New Kent County, and has an exit for VA-33/VA-249, where VA-33 joins I-64 through the county. The routes have exits for VA-106, and VA-155, before VA-33 splits off to go to West Point. East of the interchange, I-64 enters James City County, and has exits for VA-30, and SR-607, before meeting VA-199's northern end. The interstate continues east, north of Williamsburg, and has an exit for VA-143's northern end, before having another interchange with VA-199.
East of Williamsburg, I-64 has an exit for US 60/VA-143, before entering Newport News and having another exit for VA-143, followed by an exit for VA-105. About 5 miles later, the interstate has yet another exit for VA-143. Before crossing into Hampton, I-64 has exits for VA-171, and US 17.
I-64 has exits for the Hampton Roads Center Parkway, US 258/VA-143, before meeting I-664's northern terminus. Continuing east from the I-664 interchange, I-64 has exits for VA-134, US 60, and VA-169. At the US 60 exit, US 60 joins I-64 on their first concurrency since Allegheny County. After the VA-169 exit, I-64 and US 60 cross the James River on the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel, the world's first bridge-tunnel.
After leaving the bridge-tunnel, I-64 and US 60 enter Norfolk, and meet VA-168's northern end. The next exit, US 60 splits off I-64, and I-64 turns south. The interstate has an exit for Bay Avenue, before meeting the east end of I-564. I-64 continues southeast, and has exits for Tidewater Drive, VA-194, Military Highway, and Norview Avenue, before meeting US 13.
Continuing from US 13, I-64 heads straight south, and has an interchange with I-264. About 2 miles later, I-64 has an interchange with Indian River Road, and turns to the west, and loses its East-West directions. The interstate has interchanges with Greenbrier Parkway and Business VA-168, before an interchange with I-464's southern end, South VA-168, and South US 17. North US 17 joins I-64 west for about 4 miles, before splitting and heading north at Exit 296. I-64 continues west, and meets US 13 and US 460 at Exit 297. After the exit, I-64 meets its eastern terminus at an interchange with I-264's west end and I-664's south end.
My Experiences:
I have been on I-64 countless times, my most used exits are probably 136, 177, and 284. My first road trip used I-64 from VA-288 to SR-629. Most of my January 1, 2023 road trip used the interstate (with the exception of I-295 north of Richmond). My May 18, 2023 road trip used I-64 from Pantops to VA-288, and multiple others used I-64.
