US 23 is a road that goes from I-75 in Mackinaw City, MI, to US 1 in Jacksonville, FL. Since this is a Virginia based website, this page will only have the part of US 23 in Virginia.

The Route Path:
US 23 enters Virginia south of Jenkins, KY as a 4 lane divided highway. The route heads east from the border, before curving south. Shortly after, US 23 has a junction with the north end of its Pound business route. The route curves around the town of Pound, before re-meeting the business route south of the town.
US 23 continues south from Pound, going through rural, hilly terrain in Wise County. After a few miles, the route meets the north end of another Business US 23, for the town of Wise. Mainline US 23 heads south, west of the town, before re-meeting the business route southwest of Wise. About a mile after that, the route intersects yet another business route, for the City of Norton.
After intersecting that business route, US 23 enters the City of Norton, before having an interchange with ALT US 58. US 23 continues south with ALT US 58, as they curve to the west, running just south of downtown. The routes have an exit for SR-619, before leaving the city limits shortly after.
US 23 and ALT US 58 continue southwest, and after a few miles, they become a bypass of Big Stone Gap. The routes pass between the town of Big Stone Gap, and the CDP of East Stone Gap, before US 23 finally reunites with Business US 23. ALT US 58 splits from the concurrency at this interchange. The route continues south from Big Stone Gap, before entering the eastern part of Lee County. US 23 curves to the southeast, before leaving Lee County, and entering Scott County. The route passes through the small town of Duffield, before meeting the west end of its concurrency with US 58 and US 421.
US 23, US 58, and US 421 continue southeast from the junction, before meeting the west end of VA-65, just west of the town of Clinchport. After passing by the town, the routes curve east, approaching the town of Gate City. All 3 routes have business routes through the town, and the main routes bypass Gate City to the south. After leaving the town and re-meeting their business routes, US 23, US 58, and US 421 curve around a mountain, and go through the town of Weber City. After leaving the town, the routes cross the North Fork Holston River, and head directly south, entering the State of Tennesee.
