The Route Path:
VA-419 begins at a roundabout with VA-311 in the community of Hanging Rock. The route heads east, before reaching an interchange with I-81. From here, VA-419 curves south, running along the border of the City of Salem, shortly before fully entering the city.
The route continues to head south, before intersecting US 460 and US 11 ALT. VA-419 is joined by US 11 ALT and US 460 ALT, as they continue south. Shortly after, US 11 ALT/US 460 ALT slide away from the route to head towards Downtown Salem, while VA-419 still continues to head south through the eastern part of the city.
The route has intersections with a couple of streets, including Roanoke Boulevard, before reaching US 11 in the southeastern part of the city. After the intersection, VA-419 curves southeast, going parallel to the Roanoke River, before crossing it shortly after. The route curves back southward, passing by a few businesses before it leaves Salem to become the border of Roanoke County and the City of Roanoke.
VA-419 curves southwest, still serving as the Roanoke County-City border, then immediately curves to the southeast as it passes by numerous businesses. Eventually, the route intersects Glen Heather Drive, where it fully enters Roanoke County and the CDP of Cave Spring.
VA-419, still heading southeast, continues to pass by multiple neighborhoods and buildings, still as a 4-lane divided highway. Eventually, the route curves east for about 3900 feet before reaching an intersection with US 221 in the central area of Cave Spring. VA-419 continues east from the intersection, still passing by buildings and neighborhoods, and having intersections with multiple roads, before slowly curving to the northeast.
The route passes by more businesses, eventually passing by Tanglewood Mall, before crossing back into the City of Roanoke. Right after entering the city, VA-419 reaches its southern end at an interchange with US 220 and the beginning of US 220 Business. The road itself continues north through Roanoke as the business route.
My Experiences:
I have never been on VA-419. However, I have passed under it on I-81 multiple times, most recently on August 28, 2023.
