July 1, 2024: Fifth Blog Post

Welcome to the fifth version of the Hunty Roads Monthly Blog! Plenty of interesting stuff has happened over the month of June, including one of the biggest things to ever happen in my road-geek career, so this'll be a very interesting post.

Unfortunately, I've decided to not do Route Posts with this edition either, but will make up for it by releasing many Route Posts to both sites.

June Travels:

June was my best travel month of 2024 so far. The month was defined by a multi-day trip to Myrtle Beach, SC which gave me plenty of new mileage on roads and new counties.

The first travels of June started on the 4th, with a mini-trip to Scottsville, giving me some good photos (most of which I already had). On the 8th, I took another mini-trip, this time to Hanover County, which gave me 21 pictures. On that mini-trip, I was planning on what to do for travelling the next few days, which you can see the results in the next paragraph.

North VA-20 at SR-708 during some bridge repairs on the latter.

After a calm day on the 9th, the next day was one of my biggest travel days of my career. At 6:38 AM that day, I set off on a road trip to Myrtle Beach, SC. I got 1,363 photos, with lots of new mileage south of Fayetteville, NC, and 2 new counties from the trip there. The 11th was not as crazy, but I still went on a mini-trip around the area.

Welcome to NC on I-95 SB.

Welcome to SC on US 701 SB.

June 12 also went in the books as one of my biggest travel days of my career, giving me 1,279 photos as I returned to Hanover County from Myrtle Beach. From this trip, I got way more mileage along I-40 in NC, plus plenty of new counties in that state. The 13th was also a good travel day, though it was (almost) the same route I took on June 7, 2023, meaning that was the day I returned home to the Charlottesville Area. I got 112 photos from this road trip, plenty more than the last few times I returned home from the Richmond Area.

North US 17 at NC-87, right before approaching I-140.

US 13/117 NB at Future I-795 in NC.

The rest of the month remained quiet, with what is at this point just a 'commute' out to the mountains of Dyke as the only real travelling for the month's second half. Most of my photos from the 14th (my birthday!!) to the end of the month were of a severe thunderstorm rolling into my area.

June Routes & Pages:

June for Route Posts was mostly a quiet month, with my personal life taking much of the time I would've had to work on and publish more Route Posts and Pages.

However, I still managed to get a Route Post in, plus two Road Trip Pages:

VA-164

June 4, 2023 - Trip to Midlothian

June 5, 2023 - Trip to Yorktown

This month will be way better for publishing to the website in both categories, as the one year anniversary of multiple trips happens during the month (8th, 15th, 16th, 23rd). I also have two major Route Posts that are back in the works, now due for release sometime this month.

NC Expansion:

Hunty Roads has OFFICIALLY expanded to North Carolina!! I decided to go with the separate site strategy for this one, and as of now, I already have two route posts published to the site.

Some features on the VA site (such as the Monthly Blog) won't be on the NC Site, but the expansion will include new features that haven't been seen on here. I'll likely post about 4-5 new Route Posts on that site this month, plus add a couple of these new features to the site.

Speaking of Route Posts, the NC Site currently has two of them available for viewing:

This list will obviously be bigger next post.

Monthly Road Trip %:

The newest edition of the Monthly Road Trip %, with the first table listing destinations and their chances of me going to them from now until the end of the year, and the bottom table listing places I've already been and their previous chances of me going.

Next Month's Post (8/1/24):

Next month, I will bring back accompanying Route Posts, and I'll tweak the rules for them to let 1-2 Digit Primary Routes be eligible for being released alongside next month's post.

I'll also add a section or two next time, since this is the last time Expansion will be in its own section on the Monthly Blog Posts. And to end off this edition of the Hunty Roads Monthly Blog, here is yet again a fun fact; Virginia signs its school routes in the SR-9XXX series, not to be confused with the VA/SR-9XXXX series of 5 digit routes.
