Fort Monroe to Smithfield:

US 258 starts at VA-143 at Fort Monroe in Hampton. The route heads north into the main city on Mercury Boulevard, not long after, it intersects VA-169. A few blocks later, US 258 intersects VA-351. The route curves around Downtown Hampton, then has another junction with VA-169, as well as junctions with VA-278 and VA-134. Just after, US 258 has a junction with VA-152, before an interchange with I-64.

After I-64, the route goes through more of Hampton and into Newport News, having junctions with many streets, before reaching US 17, followed by US 60. After the interchange, US 258 and US 17 cross the James River Bridge and into Isle of Wight County.

Shortly after, the routes split up at Bartlett, and US 258 heads west towards Smithfield. The route meets the northern end of VA-32, and continues on its way to Smithfield. Shortly after, US 258 approaches Smithfield and splits with Business US 258. After bypassing Smithfield, the route reaches VA-10 and turns to the southwest.

After leaving the Smithfield area, US 258 goes through rural areas as Courthouse Highway. The route later passes through Isle of Wight Courthouse and returns to it's rural course. It stays rural until reaching Windsor, where it intersects US 460.

After Windsor, US 258 goes south through the southern part of Isle of Wight County, runs through the small community of Walters and later meets Business US 58 and Bypass US 258. The route joins Business US 58 through Campstown and into the City of Franklin. In Downtown Franklin, US 258 splits from Business US 58 and meets US 58 after leaving the city.

The route goes through rural Southampton County, before meeting VA-189, and continuing south towards the Nottoway River, and soon after crossing the river, US 258 crosses the North Carolina State Line towards Murfreesboro.

My Experiences:

I've been on US 258 plenty of times, especially on my stays down in Hampton. My first time on the route in my time as a full roadgeek was January 1, 2023. I also used a tiny part on July 16, 2023, to find something to eat and do some minor shopping.
