September 1, 2024 - Seventh Blog Post

Welcome to Blog Post Number (lucky) 7! This is the best blog post since May (the 3rd post), mainly because it brings back long-form Route Posts.

Alongside the Route Posts, I also finally published the first Special Page for this Blog Post. That first page is about Lynchburg's Isolated Freeway System, which has the history of the freeway system in Lynchburg and reasoning behind why the city lacks interstates.

The long-awaited Route Posts that have been released with this Blog Post are I-85 and US 250. These two posts were originally due to be released on June 1, with the June Monthly Blog Post, but got delayed until finally being released for this Blog Post.

August Travels:

The month of August was a decent month for my travels. Despite only one road trip happening in the month, it had one of the best buildups ever for one of my trips.

Before this trip however, August was a very, very quiet month. My first picture came on the 1st, which was of a sunset on US 33 in Greene County. My next two pictures would be on the 6th, also of a sunset, this time from my home.

The US 33 sunset.

The 9th also brought some home-view sunset pictures, as would the 10th. My next road-related pictures would come on the 14th, as I walked around a semi-open under-construction area taking pictures of signs in the part that's open. The 19th and 22nd would also unsurprisingly bring me some nice sunset pictures as the latter had not a cloud in sight for the sunset.

I would take my first on-the-road pictures since the start of the month on the 23rd, with a "commute" mini-trip to Stanardsville. I took 5 road pictures that day, and at this point in the month, my sunset pictures outnumbered my road pictures 15-10.

North SR-743 in Greene County.

The next day would be the best travel day I had since June 12 however, as I went on a road trip to Baltimore, MD. This would be my first road trip since July 26th, my first time in Maryland since April 21st, and my first time in Baltimore ever. My main reason to go to Baltimore was just like my DC Trip in April; to see the Houston Astros play.

One of my first/only pictures in Loudoun County, VA-28 at VA-267.

Tysons is viewable from VA-267 in Fairfax County.

Welcome to Maryland!

Approaching Downtown Baltimore on I-395 North in MD.

Unfortunately the Astros lost 3-2 in a close game to the Orioles, making me 0-2 at their games, but that's still ball. On the bright side, I got multiple new counties/cities, including Loudoun County in Virginia, plus Howard County, Baltimore County, and City of Baltimore in Maryland. I also got 950 pictures from that trip, making it ranked 7th all-time in picture count. My lowest route number without a picture also went from 32 to 44 after I passed through the I-95/MD-32 interchange.

Oriole Park at Camden Yards. My second MLB game/stadium.

I-95 South at I-695 in MD.

A sunset over the Potomac River at the VA/MD State Line.

Welcome back to Virginia!

Merging onto US 29 South from I-66 in the sunset.

The next day, I would get 11 pictures on a semi-often mini-trip to Barboursville, which those would be my last road pictures on the month.

August Posts & Pages:

August was quite an improvement from July on Hunty Roads. I published 3 Route Posts and Pages (excluding the monthly Blog Post) to the website this month. They are listed right below this sentence:

VA-110 (8/1)
VA-419 (8/7)
VA-32 (8/22)

Monthly Road Trip %:

Just like last month, prepare for some pretty big changes to this list as summer slowly says its goodbyes. Multiple places flew right off the list, some shot up/down the list, and a couple new ones appeared.

The bottom list continues to be apart of this section too, listing trips I've taken with their previous chances.

The Next Post:

The next post will likely be almost the same as this one, with the Monthly Road Trip % changing drastically as summer will officially be over then. I'll probably have a section dedicated to one of the big plans I've kept in the back of my mind as well (if I decide to implement it..).

Hopefully, the "September Travels" part of the post will be bigger as well with more trips in the month, and of course I will confirm that there will be more stuff listed in the "September Posts & Pages" part.

Finally, I can't forget the random fact that ends all of these posts, this time it's that VA-259 is one of, if not the only Primary Route in the state that is cut into two by a state line, with WV-259 being about twice as long as VA-259.
